Would you believe the sterling is fetching less than the Euro at exchanges, you’d suppose there would be a lot of fantastic deals to be had in alpine resorts this ski season as skiers rest at home to combat the crunch. First figures just published point to the fact that skiing towns are 83 percent full during the Xmas period. 14 % higher than the same time period last year.

One will have more chance in January which currently shows a 36 percent reserve rate. Signs of a downturn is over the significant February ski holiday month which has 68 % reservations, 4 percent down on last season. Booking kiosks in the ski areas of Les Orres, Montroc, Bessans and Grand Massif have noted heavy reservations in Dec boosted by the heavy early on season snows. Gourette has stronger bookings in comparison to last season, whilst Savoie enjoyed a fantastic New Year and Christmas.

However there is heavy call for a larger catered chalet, 6 to 9 places, as people group up to save the pennies. Early evidence highlights that DIY snowboarding breaks are holding up, perhaps pointing to the fact that earnest boarders will not sacrifice their skiing holiday. However reservations from package ski holidays are down.
