With what would have been Michael Jackson’s 51st birthday this Saturday, August 29th. It only seems right to take a look at his most famous video, considered by many to be the greatest music video ever made.
What can you say about The Michael Jackson Thriller video that hasn’t already been said? It revolutionized the art of the music video and made Michael Jackson, who was already a huge star, into an icon. Unlike a lot of things from the ’80’s, the video looks as good today as it did when it debuted. A timeless tale of why you should never cut through a cemetery after a date.
A behind the scenes documentary was made during the filming, it can be viewed starting here. Jackson’s co-star, Ola Ray, reflected on her experience in an interview celebrating the 25th anniversary album Thriller which can be seen here.
If imitation is considered the sincerest form of flattery then people truly love this video, as evidenced by it’s many copies. It’s been performed by everyone from wedding parties to prisoners to marching bands, remade with LEGO toys, used in TV ads and movies, there’s also a rather unique Indian version. These are just a few examples.
Now for those few that might have actually not seen this before, and for everyone who’d like to see it again. Here’s the full original music video.
